Chronic Candida
Candida can be very disturbing as it disrupts one’s comfortability in most situations. Vaginal candidiasis may often recur in one patient. In this case, the condition may be considered chronic as medication only serves to put it off for a while before it comes back. In such cases, patients are often advised to adjust their diet accordingly and also take the proper medication. However, it is important for one to understand the factors that may be causing it before they attempt to treat the symptoms. This is especially necessary if one has resulted to home-made treatments. The home-made treatments are good to use if one is sure that they are suffering from a vaginal candida infection and not another infection entirely. It is normally easier to diagnose if one has had it before.
There are various causes of chronic vaginal candida.
Wrong diet – A diet filled with wheat and sugars often causes the candida to be triggered which ends up in a recurrence of the candida. In order to handle it, one may need to change their diet to include more proteins and vitamins. They should also change their source of carbohydrates to other sources such as rice and whole grain.
Menses – Menses are an unavoidable circumstance for a woman. They may have however be the reason for the recurrence of candida. The different hormonal changes that occur in a woman’s body due to the increase in estrogen levels often lead to an elevated vaginal pH. It can also be caused by ovulation which also influences the pH levels in a female’s body. Once elevated, this makes the vaginal area conducive for candida overgrowth. At times it occurs immediately after one’s menses which is before ovulation or immediately before one’s menses which is after the ovulation period.
Pregnancy – Pregnancy causes an imbalance of hormones in a woman’s body which may result in candida overgrowth. The recurrence may be more prevalent in the early stages of the pregnancy where it is more severe.
Chronic candida can be a frustrating experience. It is bets to see a doctor when this is the case. The best way to deal with it is to undertake a treatment regime that is prolonged in order to ensure that the factors causing the recurrence are also dealt with. Some of the measures taken should be aimed at reducing the pH levels n the body such that candida does not get to survive.
